The purpose of "Go FOURTH" is to promote respect and understanding while preventing teasing and bullying among children. This is accomplished by enabling children to actively participate in the development of classroom culture in a safe and respectful environment and to transfer their new skills into other aspects of their lives.

Go FOURTH is based on the beliefs that:

• Greater understanding between children with differences will eventually lead to greater understanding between adults with differences.
• Children are human beings who deserve to be heard and respected.
• Children who are allowed to voice their concerns and feelings in a respectful environment that promotes respect tend to develop an increased sense of confidence and positive self-esteem.
• Children can rise above petty and hurtful behaviors if given the opportunity and leadership with the expectation that they will succeed.
• The education of the whole child in a safe environment promotes increased academic progress.
